Portia’s Progress
The following is from All About Equine Rescue.

Portia Update
Remember Portia? She came in with Maia, and the two stallions, Whiskey and Myers, followed. Portia was in the best condition of the four, and she’s looking and feeling much better (though our recent photos don’t quite show how much better).
We were told Portia is a 6-8 year old Arab/Quarter Horse, but her teeth suggest she’s closer to 12.
Need a refresher on Portia’s story? Read it here.
Portia is making progress. She’s gained weight, and she’s becoming more social. It seems she’s beginning to enjoy humans more and more. She’ll come to you for haltering in her paddock, and she approaches anyone passing by her stall. She’s not very fond of water or fly spray, but she’s learning it’s not so bad.
Portia will be available for adoption soon. She has some work to do with her hooves and confidence, in general. Her teeth have been floated and her hooves trimmed. She’s been dewormed and vaccinated, too, and she has a microchip.
As you recall, Portia’s owner was gravely ill, and she passed away shortly after Portia and Maia came to AAE. Sadly, she had no plan for the future of her animals.
As horse/pet owners, it is important that we plan ahead for our animals and make arrangements for their care when our own health declines or they pass. One of the most common reasons AAE is called for assistance is because of the declining health or death of a family member whose horse(s) are left without adequate care or support. Family doesn’t have the knowledge, resources, or time to care for the horse(s).
Protect Your Animals and Your Future
Did you know next month, August, is National Make-A-Will Month? Every year, Make-A-Will Month recognizes the importance of having a plan to support your loved ones, your animals, and the causes you care about.
You may assume you don’t have an estate, but your animals are actually a part of it! As a responsible animal owner, you will want to name a guardian for them in your will or revocable living trust so they always have a loving home. It also gives you the opportunity to express how to best care for them, such as how often to visit the veterinarian, define special needs, or what to feed them.
With gratitude for all you do for our equine friends, AAE has partnered with FreeWill to offer our community a free and easy-to-use estate planning tool. In about 20 minutes, you are guided step-by-step through making a will or a revocable living trust that reflects your values. You can even choose to plan a gift to AAE, which costs nothing today, but will help us rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome horses for generations to come.Make your will or revocable living trust today!
We will be sharing more information and resources to help with the process in the coming weeks.
Your donations, volunteering, adopting, and social media shares & likes really do make a difference and make all of this work possible!
Sponsorships aren’t only for businesses!
“The Herd” table sponsorships are our most popular and most economical option among families and friends. The Herd table is available NOW through August 21 (or until sold out, whichever comes first). This option is perfect for a group of family, friends, co-workers, or fellow volunteers.
Buy a table to ensure your group sits together. Tables are limited, so we encourage you to purchase early. One table, one payment.
Boots & Bling has sold out the past several years with upwards of 350 to 400 attendees. Table sponsorships are growing in popularity, and limited tables are available.

Can you help with an Auction Item?
The live and silent auctions have been one of the most important aspects of Boots & Bling, and they raise substantial funding for AAE’s horses and operations.
With your help, we can make this the most successful auction yet!
Ways to help:
* Donate an item, experience or volunteer your professional service (This evening is a great opportunity to highlight your business with 350+ in attendance)
* Contact your family and personal network of friends and business associates who may be willing to donate items/products, services, and experiences.
* Join our Boots & Bling Auction team and contact businesses about donating items/products, services, and experiences.
Businesses do not need to be local. Vacation/destination items help make wonderful auction packages or baskets!
