Start An Important Conversation This Week
The following is from All About Equine Animal Rescue:
This is National Estate Planning Awareness Week, and as a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating equines, we understand the power of future planning to protect the horses, other animals, and people we love.
Start planning now to prevent situations like the one we found Cody in. Cody came to AAE after his owner passed away without a plan for his future care.
AAE receives many calls requesting assistance with horses because their owners passed without a plan in place to provide for their care. These horses are at-risk as they have no one to care for them, no planned resources for their care, and nowhere to go. Creating a will or revocable living trust to document your plan can prevent situations like this.
Estate planning doesn’t have to be stressful or complicated. It starts with meaningful conversations with your loved ones about the future. Here are a few guiding questions to get you started: |
· Who would we want to care for our children (or pets)?
· Who would we want to help manage our finances? Who would be our financial power of attorney? · Does our medical power of attorney know our health concerns and wishes? · Are the chosen family members or friends aware of these roles and willing to take them of? · How can we ensure those we choose understand our wishes and have the financial resources to care for our children or pets the way we would? · Can we create a legacy that ensures care for neglect, abused, and abandoned horses? |
Because of the support we received from generous, horse-loving individuals, we were able to help Cody become the vibrant, youthful horse he once was, and he found his forever home.
This free, easy-to-use estate planning tool helps you to secure what matters most. With it, you can create a will or revocable living trust. You can name guardians for your children and pets, decide how your assets will be distributed, designate beneficiaries for your 401k and non-probate assets, and support the causes you cherish (like helping the horses of AAE) for years to come.
