Miniature horses, donkeys and mules all have one thing in common; everyone else is taller than they are! As the saying goes, the eyes are the window to the soul so it is understandable that they would become anxious if they are unable to look into a person’s eyes to decide whether they are friend or foe. With safety always as my first priority, I work with my minis from a lower position whenever it’s safe to do so. That way, I can make eye contact with them, and I make certain they are always lavishly rewarded with an oats reward for their compliance. You can make fun of me if you want to, but another thing that is important is the way you talk to them. Baby talk INVITES their interest where a perpetually firm voice, or a clicker, does not invite the same kind of intimacy. The results of using this safe approach to miniature have been amazing! My minis are always calm and happy to cooperate and learn! There are 16 babies at the Fallon Feed Lot who ship THIS Thursday if they are not rescued prior to 8 pm. We are so over full, but how do we watch them ship to their death?
We need funds to purchase them, and I do not know how much that will cost at this point, but we HAVE TO HAVE FUNDS TO FEED AND CARE FOR THEM if we are going to go get any or all of them. It is not just about “saving them”, it is about being able to properly care for them and feed them. At this point it is a very difficult decision. However, the phone has not stopped, my message box is over flowing and this is in our own back yard.
So it is up to our Chilly Pepper Family if we can save any or all of them. As always, we will step up to save as many as we can, based on our ability to actually rescue and care for them. IF, by some miracle, they are all safe at the time of the deadline, we would rescue others.
As usual, we are having a crisis in the middle of a crisis. Matt is standing by for the paperwork to bring the mini’s home.
So please help us save these babies and give them a very Merry Christmas!
THE MINI’S ARE ALMOST HERE! Cuteness overload below!!

THE MINI’S ARE FINALLY AVAILABLE!! (Shown above are some currently at Chilly Pepper)
A quick update and plea to help us finally get the mini’s safely home to Chilly Pepper. As of today, all 17 are scheduled for their Coggins tests this coming Thursday. The paperwork should be back 3 days after and we will be bringing them home in time for Christmas!
YOU SAVED ALL OF THE 15 BABIES THIS LAST WEEK! THANK YOU FROM EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM! We were down to the wire, but we made it. Thankfully, several of the folks we work with on a regular basis stepped up to each take 5.As we have 7 babies and 18 adults here right now, this was a huge blessing. Of course we incurred THE EXPENSES of getting them, vetting them etc.. Matt drove 2300+ miles, and most of it was on ice to get them all picked up, vetted and taken to their temporary homes for adoption. I am happy to say that many of them already have committed adopters.
It’s hard to keep asking for help. You have already saved so many lives. But the simple fact is, without your help, we cannot save these horses. I have been planning the latest update, where I could simply thank all of you for the amazing love and support and the fact that we were in fact successful in saving ALL of the babies. Sadly, there are more lives to save, and we do need help to do it.
We have been praying for a break in the emergencies, but we have been waiting so long to get these mini’s to safety that we simply cannot turn our backs. So please help us if you can.
We ended up sending the money to the fire victims as opposed to physically taking hay. After checking with the folks in charge, due to the poor weather and lack of dry storage we were given two people to contact and they were ecstatic to have the help. So thank you again for making that happen.
So we are hoping and praying that y’all will come through again and help us save the new kids. We have had some wonderful donations, and we are so grateful as we would normally not have anywhere near this number of horses at this time of year. They are not being “hoarded”, they simply need more time to heal and when they are ready we will get them adopted.
Thank you and God Bless!
BELOW ARE THE BABIES YOU JUST HELP US WITH! THANK YOU FROM EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM!
Have a “MINI CHRISTMAS”!!

THE CLOCK IS TICKING on 25 new lives. – 25 Miniatures are at risk of dying, and we need your help to save them…
We came together and saved 25 more mustangs this last week. Thank You for making that possible. Out of those 25, we brought home 4 orphans and a badly injured mare and baby. Thankfully the extended network of folks came together to help.
As always, Chilly Pepper incurred ALL THE COSTS to rescue them, but once again they are OFF OUR BOOKS, and safe and sound until they find their forever homes.**
Unfortunately with those 25 we incurred some hefty vet bills. I just saw one of them this morning. This bill is $1972.85, which is pretty much going to wipe out most of the budget.
We also have another vet bill for emergency care for Valentine. Matt came home to find him in desperate need of vet care, and although the Vet did every thing she could my beautiful boy died. It is heartbreaking to be gone for so long and have a horse get sick and not make it. We saved 25, but my beautiful boy is gone.
I RECEIVED ANOTHER EMERGENCY CALL YESTERDAY – We are on standby for 25? miniature horses, similar to the ones shown above. Their lives are at risk, but unless we raise enough funds we will not be able to answer the call. We spent thousands of dollars to save the last 25, and we are simply tapped out.
We have a few days to a week or so? We are on standby for when the miniatures are all rounded up and we can pick them up. But it will not happen if we do not raise funds to cover the rescue.
The rescue work we do is very expensive, but Y’ALL ARE DIRECTLY SAVING LIVES! Matt and I are willing to keep doing the work, but as of right now the budget is tapped. We have been getting lots of kids placed, and that also makes a huge difference in the feed bill. We definitely DO NOT hoard horses, and most all of your donations go to saving more lives, as opposed to feeding “stored horses”.
PLEASE HELP if you can. We will ONLY BE ABLE TO SAVE THE MINI’S if folks open their hearts. We are ALSO STANDING BY for more babies. The roundups are happening as I type this and that means lots more orphans. As we sit right now, there are simply not enough funds to save more lives.
We are driving thousands of miles while we save and place these horses. Our rescue spent over $8000 just in fuel last year, but YOU SAVED hundreds of lives. So I am asking folks to help us keep saving more lives if you can.
Below meet our little Bear. She is a yearling, and the size of the 3 week old babies. She is one of the 25 you just saved.
